Preparing for a colonic

Preparing for a colonic is important if you want good results. If you are considering a colonic, then it is best to do some homework in advance. Cleansing treatments are not the same for everyone, and your first colonic can challenge your body, so preparation is key!

Below, we have prepared some easy to follow guidelines to prepare you and your body for your first session.

48 hours prior

Remove the following items from your diet:

preparing for a colonic
  • red meat
  • soy and dairy products
  • processed and fried foods
  • sugar
  • soda pop (carbonated beverages)
  • alcohol and coffee

These foods and beverages take longer to digest, lack nutritive value, and can dehydrate the digestive tract. Preparing for a colonic requires some commitment, and leaving these items off your intake list for a few days prior is our best advice to you.

24 hours prior

Stick to a diet of:

  • light protein intake (plain yogurt, kefir, poultry, fish, tofu)
  • steamed vegetables, salads
  • herbal teas and fresh vegetable juices
  • soups and broths

2 hours prior

As part of preparing for a colonic, plan ahead and leave time on the day of your treatment. You will need to put aside 1.5 hours for your in-clinic visit. This is a treatment that requires your patience and a willingness from your body to let go. Our bodies hold on to things for different reasons, so sometimes when we try to purge something, it can be difficult.

  • Concentrate on hydration. Drink at least 2 glasses of water before your treatment.
  • Relax and relieve stress before arriving. Arrive early, so you are not rushed. Leave time to fill out your intake form if you have not filled one out on-line.
  • Be prepared on your first visit. You may need extra time afterwards for a bathroom visit.
  • Relax and enjoy your treatment!

After your treatment

How will you feel post-treatment?

Following a colon cleanse, most clients remark on how clean and light they feel. It is also common to experience increased energy and a general sense of well-being.

On some occasions, clients may not feel any different, or may have some unusual outcomes. We are all different, and so are our daily habits. The condition of your health when you start colonics has a big impact on how you will feel following your treatment. Be prepared to visit more than once when you are starting your journey to better health. It is way more difficult to get healthy, then it is to get sick.

If you are feeling unusually weary or relaxed afterwards, this is simply your body’s way of adjusting after your cleanse. Getting proper rest is extremely important afterwards, so your body can rejuvenate. Please do not plan any high intensity workouts for at least 24 hours after your colonic.

Reminders and simple guidelines

  • Drink plenty of liquids (purified or distilled water, freshly squeezed juices, herbal teas, and electrolyte beverages).
  • Eat light pureed food following each session (blended soups are highly recommended for 12 hours following).
  • Avoid eating raw vegetables for a couple of days. Steamed vegetables and raw fruit are sufficient – but be careful to chew your food thoroughly.
  • Avoid heavy proteins, especially beef and pork.

We want you to have the best experience possible, so follow these easy steps to prepare for your colonic, and during your session, we will walk you through every step of the way. Questions are always welcome – we actually encourage a treatment dialogue so you leave feeling like you have a better understanding of your own body function.

Remember, everyone is unique, and so is their experience.
