Coffee Enemas

Why can’t I hold my coffee enema?

There are several reasons why you may have trouble holding your coffee enemas. Below we focus on coffee enemas, but these points can be considered for any type of enema administered at home.

Constipation

Coffee enemas can be used for relieving constipation and supporting liver health.  We recommend starting with a small amount of your coffee enema or a water enema for an initial hold and release to clear any backed up fecal matter. Preparing is important if you want the full benefit of your coffee enema for liver support.  Doing a water enema, or part (1/3) of your coffee enema first will soften stool to help you release it and clear the pathway, so you don’t feel such urgency on your first try.

By using this two step method, you should find it easier to hold the remaining coffee enema liquid for the desired time. Coffee enemas are generally held for 5-15 mins.

Temperature of the enema

Ideally, you would want it to be about the same as your body temperature (37o) or slightly warmer.  If it’s too hot or too cold, your colon will force you to release it.

Gravity

Find the right height for your flow.  If the bag is too high, the flow will be too fast.  Too low, and the force may be too slow to empty the bag.  This takes a bit of practice.  Generally, we like to hang the bag about 3Ft about body height.

Start and Stop Method

Fill a bit then stop the flow and let the body relax.  Fill, stop, relax.  This method is great if you want to take in more liquid and hold longer.  Slowly and gently.  We love this method for letting the coffee enema seep into the soft tissue. It’s a great way to get a deep clean out and it’s good exercise for the colon muscle.

Anxiety / Stress / Nerves

Life stress and anxiety can increase inflammation in the body, and this also makes it harder to hold.

Start slowly with a small amount of liquid and work your way up!  If coffee seems weird, start with water! The colon loves water! Hydration baby!

If you are simply nervous about attempting these treatments at home, that can make things more stressful as well.  The more relaxed you are, the more your colon will be able to accept the enema.

TIP! Put your phone down… it’s also not a best practice to scroll on your device while trying to do an enema. Reading or just closing your eyes and relaxing is the best method.

Inflammation

If the body is inflamed, this may make it harder to do enemas.  Inflammation tightens our elimination pathways.

Reduce the inflammation – focus on a mucous free (whole food) diet before attempting another coffee enema.

Inflammation = toxicity – When you are over toxified, it’s quite difficult to do enemas.  Having said that, just keep trying.  Start with smaller amounts, and fewer minutes.  Work your way up from 5 mins to 15 mins! It does get easier.  Persistence pays off!

NOTE:  Colonics – We always recommend a few colonics before attempting enemas at home.  This can help clear the colon and remove toxins that make it more difficult for you to hold your home enemas.  It’s never a bad idea to have a good colon cleaning!
