Why can’t I hold my coffee enema?
There are several reasons why you may have trouble holding your enemas when administered at home.

Constipation
Constipation can make it difficult to hold an enema, but at the same time, enemas can relieve your constipation!
We recommend starting with a small amount of liquid (1/3 of the total) for an initial hold and release, to soften stool, and clear blockages or backed up fecal matter in the colon.
Preparing is important if you want the full benefit of your enema. Starting slowly will keep you from feeling an urgency to release too soon.
Temperature of the enema
Ideally, you would want it to be about the same as your body temperature (37o) or slightly warmer. If it’s too hot or too cold, your colon will force you to release it.
Gravity
Find the right height for your flow. If the bag is too high, the flow will be too fast. Too low, and the force may be too slow to empty the bag. This takes a bit of practice. Generally, we like to hang the bag about 3Ft about body height, or simply hold it and lift and lower when you’re ready to go.
Start and Stop Method
By using a two-step or start and stop method, you should find it easier to hold your enema liquid for the desired time. Enemas of any kind are generally held for 5-15 mins. The longer you can hold it, the better your results will be.
Start, stop, relax. Fill a bit then clamp the hose to stop the flow and let the body relax. This method is great if you want to take in more liquid and hold it longer. Slowly and gently. We love this method for letting enemas seep into the soft tissue. It’s a great way to get a deep clean out and it’s good exercise for the colon muscle.
Practice makes perfect! Start slowly with a small amount of liquid and work your way up! Simply use alkaline or reverse osmosis water! The colon loves water! Hydration baby!
Anxiety / Stress / Nerves

Life stress and anxiety can increase inflammation in the body, and make it more difficult to hold your enema. You may feel a fast urge to purge.
If you are nervous about attempting these treatments at home, your nerves can take over and cause you to purge early. The more relaxed you are, the more your colon will be able to accept the enema and hold it for the desired time.
TIP! Put your phone down… it’s also not a best practice to scroll on your device while trying to do an enema. Reading or just closing your eyes and relaxing is the best method.

Inflammation
If the body is inflamed, this may make it harder to hold an enema. Inflammation tightens our elimination pathways.
Reduce the inflammation: focus on a mucous free (whole food) diet before attempting another enema.
Inflammation = toxicity: When you are over toxified, it’s quite difficult to do enemas. Having said that, just keep trying. Start with small amounts, and fewer minutes. Work your way up from 5 mins to 15 mins! It does get easier. Persistence pays off!
NOTE: Colonics – We always recommend a few colonics before attempting enemas at home. This can help clear the colon and remove toxins that make it more difficult for you to hold your home enemas.
It’s simply never a bad idea to come in for a good colon cleanse!
